Trans acting funky
Buddy is having a problem with his trans after a day of wheeling.1997 ZJ
Trans has white foam mixed in with trans fluid. I did 2 transmisson fluid flushes(14 quarts)..no help.
when i go from park to drive it shifts through the gears perfectly fine .when i come to a stop it doesnt downshift all the way to 1st gear and when i hit the gas to go it revs but doesnt move so i have to manually shift it to 1st and then drive and its fine.
Any ideas or is it complete overhaul time?

take a look at the coolant in the radiator, you might find transmission fluid in there. If that is the case, your screwed. The anti-freeze attacks the bonding agent on the friction discs in the clutch packs, the only fix is a rebuild and a new radiator or bypassing the factory cooler with an aux cooler. If you have ATF in the radiator, you will have coolant in the transmission. You could try and flush the tranny and run an aux cooler, but that may only buy you a little time.
