Default Tranny swap

So I was looking at a 1994 Jeep Grand Cherokee, But it has a bad tranny.

I have a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee parts rig.

Before I purchase the 1994 I want to know if the tranny's and transfer cases will swap.

'94 has a 4 hi-lo transfer case.
'97 has a 4 hi-lo Pt.-Ft. transfer case.

Will the tranny from the '97 go onto the '94, and will the '94 transfer go onto the '97 tranny if they do interchange??

Thank you for your information in advance.

The inline 6.
They both have the same motors.
But the numbers on the T-cases are different,
I take this is because one is full time and the other it part time.

yes it should work. I know the transfer case wont be an issue. The different transfer cases are interchangable as long as the spline count and input shaft length are the same.

The '94 could have the AW4 which is controlled by a Transmission Control Module, or the 42RE or 42RH.
The '97 has either the 42RE or the 42 RH and is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module, and doesn't have a separate TCM.
