Tranny hard into gear/bogging
Hey guys, I have a 1998 GC 4.0 4wd. For the last week I've noticed a lag and clunk when putting the jeep into drive or reverse and a slight hesitation in exceleration. I checked the tranny fluid and levels seemed good. The other day I had time and replaced the radiator, hoses, thermostat and fan clutch... Levels again were good. When I drove around for about 20 minutes to make sure there were no leaks I noticed a bogging down around 20-30mph and it didnt seem to be coming from the engine then finally when I put it in reverse I heard a slight grinding noise.
Any Ideas? I just want to get an idea of where to start.

Welcome to CF. Block the wheels, set the e-brake, and put it in neutral. Go underneath and try to rotate the drive shaft back and forth while watching for any play or slop in the joints, or the yoke where they attach at the axle/transmission/transfercase. If CV joint equipped check for any damaged boots.

Hey thanks for the reply... I changed the tranny fluid and filter and the hard into gear and noise is gone, the bogging down problem is still there though. As soon as I hit 35-40 mph everything bogs down and there is a slight shutter. I didn't have this problem before I changed out the radiator, thermostat and fan clutch though...
Could it be the fan clutch bogging the system that much?
Maybe a fuel filter or pump?
I've put a fair amount of work into this bad boy and I love driving it, but I don't want to just erroneously replace parts and try to shotgun the problem.
I did check everything while I was down there and it was solid.
