Hi, I could use some advice - Grand Cherokee Transmission
Hi all, I am hoping you might be able to help me with a technical issue. I have just got a Jeep Grand Cherokee 2003 4.7 V8, has been fine for two days, then driving this evening it suddenly slowed down as if the brakes had been pressed for a few seconds then a sudden thud from the transmission afterwhich it felt as if the brakes were released (Im sure its not the brakes). The engine check light then illuminated and when i checked the error code it was P700 Transmission... Any ideas what this could be? its now happens within minutes of driving...
Thank you in advance
Mike

Your Jeep has a Transmission Control Module (TCM). This module controls the transmission functions including diagnostics. Basically a P0700 in the PCM is an finormation DTC that tells you there are other DTC's recorded in the TCM. Unfortunately the cheap scanners and code readers usually dont communicate with the other modules in the system. You will need to get the TCM scanned for DTC's and go from there.
There are a few known problems with sensors and wiring connections on the 45RFE/545RFE but without at least a code I would be hesitant to make any guesses at this point. If you wanted to try anything at all without proper diagnosis I would start by unplugging the trans connector and cleaning the pins and install some electrical grease on the pins, make sure there is no water damage, do this for the other little sensors too for a guess.

Hi, I managed to get the fault codes from the transmission today they are...
P0765 UD SOLENOID CIRCUIT FAILURE
P0876 PRESSURE SWITCH CHECK FAILURE
Im suspecting this could be a wiring fault?
Thanks
Mike
