Default Tranmission Cooler Filter

I have a 2002 Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4 with 4.7L v8 automatic. Just serviced the transmission - new fluid, sump filter, cooler filter but I did not prime the cooler filter. Now transmission will not go into gear. Will the filter eventually self prime or will I have to drop pan and do it?

Not sure on the other stuff, but the internal filter will self prime, if seated correctly. I replaced the trans filter on my '99 XJ (Aisin Warner 4) a while back and it wouldn't go into gear. Found out the pick up seal for the filter was 1MM or so too short to properly seal. Poorly made filter IMO. If you've got the old filter the quickest and easiest thing to do would be pull the new one and compare the two, very discerningly.

Welcome to CF. Read this caution: http://www.wjjeeps.com/service/transmission.htm#SEAL
If you installed the filter incorrectly you can/will damage the trans.
That comes from a WJ site that's full of useful info. Scroll up for the Main menu/Home page options.

I had the same problem when i changed my filter on my AW4, the pick up "tube" from the filter was 0,5 mm to short. The car did run and it shifted, but it didnt go in R and sometime it shifted down to soon. I think there is lots of bad filters out there, cheap crap filters. Changed back to my old filter and everything was okey :-)
