hey, my transfer case is about to go, and i figure my tranny won't be far behind.

i'd like to take an aw-4 from one of the dozens of rotting jeep cherokees around me. i was wondering what years would have a compatible tranny and transfer case for a 97 4wd zj. any major modifications need to be done or is it pretty straight forward?

Your ZJ is a 4.0L?

You dont have an AW4 in it currently, it's a 42re trans. You can swap an AW4 in if inspections are not required in your state. It wont pass an inspection as it will throw a CEL on dash... which will automatically fail the vehicle.

If it's a trailer queen and offroad only.. do a search for AW4 swap.. it's been done a few times.
