Just out of question. Why are you trying to avoid lifting it? But I guess other than that you could get brush gaurds and rear bumber and sup up the motor. Add a audio system to it. Put 4WD rims on it. Do a custom interior and exterior. There is alot of options. Basicly let your mind wonder on it.

well nothing is really "free" but on my XJ i used bedliner on my rockers to tough it up a bit...not sure what it would look like on a ZJ but...

i have pics on my build thread of what the bedliner looks like on my jeep...

once you get the tires and wheels on it wont look like a soccer moms car...i have a kid in my neighbor hood with same exact ZJ color scheme lifted with 31" a/t's and it looks mean trust me...

yeah next time i drive by if hes home ill snap a shot...i dont really know the kid haha but yeah ill do it...

another thing you could do is look into newspapers for used tires and craigslist for used tires and wheels too...

i picked up a nice set of 30x9.5 bfg mud terrains off of craigslist for $275 w/ only 4,000 miles on them... (135 per tire new)

wheels/ tires will def. help to make it not look like a soccer mom's car.

also, you can always get skid plates, diff covers, or rocker guards. none of which are cheap butt you can fab them yourself if you have the means to do so.
