Default Sticking brakes

Jeep Grand Cherokee wj 2002. Front brakes are Teves. The only problem Ihave with them is that they keep sticking and wearing the inside pad. Is itreally worth up grading these to Akebono.

If you want MY opinion, no. Just make sure the bushings are well lubricated and slide smoothly.

My opinion is based on the fact that the Teves have more metal in them and draw more heat from the rotor because of that. (Better heat sink) I'm sure other people have different opinions. I have the Teves calipers on my WJ and haven't warped a rotor or had any other brake problems in 140K.

Thanks dave, that was kind of what I was thinking. If the teves calipers are looked after and serviced regularly they should not be a problem.

There's been a lot of problems with warped rotors on the WJ models that guys have attributed to the Teves calipers. I think it has to do with the rotors more than anything else. Forged steel rotors need to be stress relieved before machining and I think some companies don't do an adequate job of this. With machine tool cutters, inadequate heat treatment makes for poor performance and I think a lot of this bleeds down to the automotive parts area. Companies save a lot of money cutting corners in production. Even the quality of steel makes a difference.

99 was the first year Jeep used twin piston calipers as far as I know. Some problems were bound to show up. Just ask the guys with HD Ford trucks! A lot of the problems are with one of the pair of pistons sticking and causing the caliper to twist, or one bushing doing the same.

Braking systems are often neglected, but are the most important system in a vehicle. My opinion is, even if it doesn't go fast, it still has to be able to STOP! Ever get that hollow feeling in your stomach when the pedal goes to the floor?

I'm not even sure solid steel rotors are forged. They might be cast steel.
