Starting issue, stalling, poor idling on 2000 WJ 4.0
Vehicle had a brand new heavy duty battery around 6 months ago, went to start the Jeep a couple of days ago, engine turned over quite slowly but fired - trip computer reset itself to zero values. Strange, hadn't used the Jeep for a couple of days but it was now running fine so though nothing more of it.
Went to start the Jeep today - again turned over slowly but fired and then stalled, trip computer reset itself to zero. Started it again and seemed to be running fine. Just pulled into a parking area and the engine stalled - slipped it into N and restarted on the key but it stalled again before I managed to get it in the parking space. Started it again a few minutes later and it stalled 3 or 4 times before I could shift it into D. Put it in N, started it up and gave it some throttle to try and stabilise the idle speed - this seemed to work OK, shifted into D and made the short journey home but the idle seems somewhat erratic.
Any ideas as to what to check ?
Alternator shows it is charging at 14v on the gauge, oil pressure shows a good reading.

Solved !
Yesterday went to start the Jeep but the engine barely turned over once before relays start clicking...voltmeter showing only 11.5v...contacted local garage and asked them to get me a replacement battery under warranty. The guy kindly drops the new battery round to me today, I fitted it and all is well again !
Old battery only showing 7v now.
Guess the problem was an internal fault in the battery ???

Yeah, you get a factory defect once in a while. I hope that's all it is.
