I live in northern MN and have yet to use winter tires. Last winter I ran a set of Firestone Destination LEs. Very happy with them. Did great in the heavy snow we get here.

my opinion is they are not as good. I have a 93 and put 30" firestone M/T"s I think they are very nice on pavement, quiet &good ride yet aggressive Milwaukee Wi..
I live here in northern ohio too. I got procomp mts on my jeep they do great in the snow. So if you like the looks of mud tires I wouldn't get snow tires. I'd get more of an allterrain tire or mud tire. Personally I love my mud tires in the snow. They get me thro everything.

If you want good traction in snow, buy an aggresive tire, like an open tread mud tire. The idea is the tread should be self-cleaning, as in clearing itself out before it returns to the road. If the tread blocks are shallow or close enough not to throw itself clear, you might as well be driving on slicks! There are many styles and tread patterns out there to choose from, choose wisely.
BTW I live in Syracuse, NY and we've had 72" of snow so far this month!
