Truck specs: 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, 4.0L, I6, Automatic Transmission, 164k miles.

I had my oil changed several days ago by an oil quick-change place that I had brought my old truck many times before. I never had my old truck be overfilled by 1/2" like my newly acquired 95 JGC Laredo.

I am checking the dipstick when the engine is cold, on level pavement, and I am finding that the oil level is 1/2" inch over the top mark. Is this going to cause unneeded stress on the engine over time? Should I drain accordingly?

leave it, let it overlubricate the motor, and blow up then make the shop buy you a new engine and replace it. youll get a new motor , should be fine, if your really worried about it, take about half a quart out and should put you back in the zone

 

Also, I noticed after the oil change that when the engine is cold, the oil pressure gauge reads at 60psi, then when the engine fully warms up 10 minutes later, the gauge goes back to 40 psi. Before the change it topped out at 50psi. It was warmer weather before the change, but now it's 20 degrees colder at night that it was before.

 

i wouldnt worry about the psi. i cant really explain it, im not exactly sure how to write it all out, or explain it or anything. but i wouldnt worry about it. as long as it doesnt read 0 or 500, i wouldnt worry lol

 

No such thing as over lubrication. The problem with too much oil in the crankcase is that the crankshaft can whip the oil into a froth, kind of like a marangue filling in a pie, the oil pump can't pump marangue and the bearings will starve for oil. Too much oil will decrease your fuel mileage too. I would take it back and have them correct their screw up. Your oil pressure increase when cold and new in not an issue.

best bet is to take it back to them and have them correct the issue.

 

i was joking about the over lubricating, it doesnt take a genious to realize that you cant really OVER lubricate the engine internals

 

and the way it seems is like its maybe a max of a quart overfilled, when it really comes down to it, thats not awhole lot, if it was like 3 quarts over id be worried lol
