Exclamation Slight Oil Issue

Ok, so last week I changed the oil in my Grand... I checked it and thougt there was too much, so I drained some out... That didnt goes as planned and here I am...

The dipstick has two holes in it... One on the bottom for the minimum oil level and the one on the top for the maximum oil level... And of course in between the 2 holes, it is safe...

When the engine is cold, the level is about 1/4 of an inch above the top hole... Let it warm up and the level drops in between the two holes, which I assume is the correct level, but who am I... What is the correct way of checking and which is the correct level?

you sure your checking the oil and not the tranny? the tranny dipstick has two holes and the level will be different hot to cold

if you are checking the oil the right level will be after the engine has cooled a bit and all the oil has drained back to the pan

Somehow I knew you would come to the rescue first...

Yea, I am checking the oil... The level is just higher when it is cold and lower when it is warm... Do you think I should go by the warm level?

Jeez, so still too much then...****

When I changed the oil last week, I didnt take the filter out so I assumed its volume... I fix it tommarow and replace the filter... I am very paranoid and think the pan is all sludged up... and my dad thinks Im crazy...

thats why,the filter holds a little more than 1/2 a quart. You gotta change that filter when you do the oil though bud,it's filled with dirty oil

I always check the oil filter during change of oil...
I make sure that it is cleaned or replaced when needed...
