Running "warm" with A/C
My boy and I are having a similar problem/concern.
His is a 98 and mine is a 94, when the A/C is on, she runs a little warm (220g instead of 210g).
When it is hotter than *****, it throws the CEL on mine.
Cooling systems are good on both.
where to start?
Fan clutch?

If you want my opinion, ranger, In my experience with GM clutch fans, when we had this same problem, we installed a direct drive fan and cured the problem. Admittedly, a direct drive fan uses horsepower, but it keeps the engine cool. You can try just replacing the clutch fan, but you might want to include an electric booster fan as well. OR just use an electric fan.

I hear you. I just was wondering if my head was in the right place, and if this was something that you could "check". I have never had this problem before, but both of our jeeps started doing this since it got warm enough for A/C.
Thanks.
ETA It looks like a conversion set up is around $60 for the complete kit. I will be going that route unless someone chimes in with a better idea.

Georgia, huh? You might want to check for bugs in your A/C condenser. I seem to remember seeing lots of cars down there with bug screens on them this time of year.

I switched my fan clutch and it really helped with my "running warm" issues. Went to a stock ZJ clutch which is an up graded version of the XJ. Bolts right on.

Also here is a another forum that goes over them in a bit more detail..

It is a bit loud and you do lose a bit of power but that better than not driving at all.
Hope this helps

It's too bad someone hasn't come up with an electric clutch like an A/C compressor for the fan. That would solve a lot of problems.

maybe you posted this Dave but I read that the mechanical fans don't pull much air near idle? mine was overheating while slowly going down the trail last time I was out. I also noticed that on really hot days (above 100) it would hold about 220 with the air on.
there is no room on these for an electric fan assist (mounting from the front of the rad) unless you cut up the grill so the only option is to go full electric. still testing mine....

IDK if I posted that or not, but I agree with it. Low speed with the engine making torque like rock crawling or picking a line over obstacles produces lots of heat in the torque converter. Even sitting in traffic with the trans in drive makes heat. Any time the engine is running and the driveline is stopped in gear, the fluid in the converter absorbs the torque and churns up the heat.
Try this. Any time you're stuck in traffic and not moving at all for extended periods, slip it into neutral and see if it runs cooler. I do this waiting in the drive-thru all the time.
