Hey fellas,

I'm in Dallas and it's already starting to heat up around here. My A/C is still working, and fairly well I'd say. That said, the PO didn't do too much maintenance-wise, so considering that, is there any kind of preventative maintenance that can be done to an A/C system? I know it was converted to R134 in July of 2005, but I'm willing to bet that was the last time any type of maintenance was performed.

I know there is an oil that needs to be in the system so the compressor doesn't take a dump. Does that ever need to be replaced? Would having a coolant vacuum and flush be a wise choice or is this just one of those things you run until something bad happens?

They really don't take much in the way of maintenance. About all I can think of is to run the AC system occasionally even during the winter to keep seals lubricated. (At least on the later XJs the compressor comes on with the windshield defroster. I don't know if that's the case on the early models.) Maybe make sure the serpentine belt is in good shape and properly tensioned. Other than that if it is working OK count your blessings and enjoy!
