Default running problem

Ok so i took out my 95 zj, has. the 5.2, well i sunk it up to the drivers door with mud an water, was stuck there for 5 hours the rig idling the whole time, now this is my problem when i go to get on it it cuts out almost like in hitting the rev limiter but at 2-3500rpm. i though maybe the fuel filter so i replaced that an no go, replaced the air filter an still no go... in at a loss, i ordered a new cam sensor for it cauase I'm leaning towards that but I'm not sure... any info would be great guys...

Before you start throwing a bunch of sensors at it, do some diagnostics. How long has it been since a tune up was done? Were the spark plug wires replaced at the last tune up? Check the fuel pressure. Have the exhaust checked for restrictions. Is the check engine light on? You will spend way more money by just throwing parts at it until you finally find the problem, if you ever find it before giving up on it.

It's entirely possible that even though it was running, mud and water could have invaded the muffler and cat. Disconnect the pipe at the converter and see how it runs.

Okay, this might help but IDK if it has anything to do with your problem.

Once I sat in traffic stopped at an accident scene for about an hour and a half, idling in the hot sun in my SS Camaro. When we finally were let go, I jumped on the throttle hard because I was pissed. After redlining it in 2nd gear, it started running real badly and bucked and snorted all the way home. What happened was all the carbon that had built up on the spark plugs while idling melted and formed a glaze that had to be chipped off. I just put a new set of plugs in it and it was fine.

My point being, when you got out of the mud hole, did you wail on it? Maybe you glazed the plugs like I did.

My plugs looked good too, but they had a yellowish coating on them that flaked off when I scratched them with a knife blade. That coating was conductive and shorted them to ground across the insulator instead of the gap.
