Roof Rack Crossbar Noise

The crossbars on my '03 Overland don't tighten down securely and the rear one goes "clunk" on a rough road. The pin latches it OK but there is a fair amount of vertical movement.
Is there a fix for this or should I just pull them off and be done with it. I'll never use them so removal might have some benefit.

IDK, my 2000 WJ's bars are squeeze latches with springs locking them in place. Maybe you have a broken spring?
