Rod knocking
I'm pretty sure its my third cylinders rod is knocking very loudly I quit driving it but I need to know what I start taking apart first. I'm very technically inclined I just need some help with my first engine if someone could give me some procedures to go through.

If you're technically inclined but have never opened an engine, I'd suggest getting a book/manual and reading how to change the crank.
At a minimum you need to get the crank ground and replace all the bearings.

I hope I can save a lot of trouble for you.If you know you have a rod going bad I suggest you just install a long block or at least A short block. You will save time and have a warranty for the engine.I stopped messing with the lower end of engines 15 years ago it just did not pay.
If you have the time, look on youtube for videos on engine rebuilds and I lot of reading. You will need a set of micrometers 0 to 1" up to 2" to 3"
I would first find out what condition the crank surface and rod are in. You will need to drop the oil pan (you may need to pull the engine)and remove the rod cap on all the pistons to be shure you have the right one.then if all is well, bearings for all rods and mains.
don't forget to check oil clearance on all bearings. It is easier to put in a long block.
Good luck.
P.S.If you do need to pull the engine I suggest a complete rebuild.
