Default replaceing wet carpet from leak.

New to the forum and proud new owner of a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. After driving through a hard rain the passenger floorboard carpet was soaked. We're still looking for leak. The carpet has a plastic backing underneath the carpet. Water is trapped between the plastic backing and carpet, not allowing the water to drain from underneath the carpet. I've taken a razor knife and cut slits into the plastic which allows some of the water to drain but not all. I've used fans, dehumidifiers, direct sunlight for days to no avail. So I'm thinking of replacing the carpet, not me but a professional. I'm in Atlanta Georgia and wondering if anyone has replaced the carpet. And if anyone knows a reputable shop that can do this.

I assume you confirmed water vs antifreeze- I’m sure you did. As you may well know, the heater core is behind the glovebox concealed in that huge black plenum(aka big black box). For your year, it’s not uncommon for the heater core to leak. Last summer I spent 7 1/2 hr doing a R&R on my 2001 GC dashboard to replace a leaking evap core- while in this deep I also replace the heater core and all the foam components(I discussed this thoroughly on another thread).
back to your wet passenger side:
I had wetness/moistness on my 01driver side.
i finally sourced it to where the floor pan is seamed to driver’s side frame/rail area(I can share details on the fix if you need).
Bottom Line: if it’s water, you need to establish the source of the leak- carpet kits are not cheap.

Thanks for your reply! The leak was coming from evaporator box where it exits into the engine compartment through the small pipe. This is on the passenger side. The foam around the interior side of the pipe has deteriorated and the water was flowing back inside the cabin. So I used silicone around the inside and outside of the pipe AND I also extended the pipe with a rubber rose and 90 degree plumbing fitting to direct the water down. So far so good.
