Talking repair manual preference?

Hi gang & thank you for all help & info you have provided in all the other threads. I'm new to the forum & 'jeeps'. I have solved many things & ?s w/ your input on my 'new' 96 gc laredo 4.0, 186k. My parts store carries both the chilton & haynes repair manuals. (same price) is there any big (or little) difference between the 2? which is more user friendly? thanks-E

Chilton's is an acceptable substitute - for most jobs - for the Factory Service Manual (but, if you're serious, plan on getting an FSM eventually. You can often score them second-hand on eBay for $20-50 with a little effort - which is better than the $90-130 you can expect to pay for them new.)

Haynes? Don't bother. I've got Chilton's, Haynes, and FSM for various years of XJ - and the best thing I can think of to do with the Haynes in use it for kindling. I'm serious - it's that bad. You'd get more use out of your twenty dollar bill if you just lit it on fire.

Check your public library to see if they have the power library online.I have found every thing I have needed and it's free.
I like the factory manuals or motors manuals.

Haynes sucks, the only way to go is the factory sevice manual. There is another thread on here with a link to download the FSM online.

Thank you for the input guys. Picked up a new chilton manual for now. (after failing to find a used one locally) Imagine my surprise when I unwrap it, open it up & find out it is published by Haynes. huh? So i find out one bought the other out, but they still publish/print w/ both names to please both fan clubs. I guess? So maybe now, we will have the best ( & worst) of both manuals. haha. Dakota I could not find that thread you mentioned. My search skills suck trying to find things on here sometimes. Any help w/ some more direction on the FSM thread would be greatly appreciated for future reference.
