Red mud like substance
I have an 09 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado. The car acts up from time to time I get the check engine light on and it says check gauges. It doesn't over heat at all. We figure its the radiator cap. Well i look at it yesterday and find this red mud looking stuff. Is that an easy fix? Can we just flush it out?

Autozone, Oreillys or most any other national auto-parts place will scan your computer codes for free. I would start there and see exactly what it broken/worn out.
Your cooling system is very neglected tho and will need to be completely flushed out and refilled. You may need new hoses, waterpump and thermostat also. Unless you are overheating, the cooling system won't trigger a "Check Engine" light. There is something else wrong.
I would ask in the Grand Cherokee section of this forum for better help tho. You posted in the regular Cherokee section.

Old fart with a wrench
It could be transmission fluid mixed in with the coolant. Leaking trans cooler coil in the radiator.
