On my '97 GC, the rear wiper was working and then stopped on its own..It stopped half way through its cycle and is now stuck on the left side..I've checked the fuse and it's good..Has anyone had this problem? Any thoughts..

Common motor dies all the time. May come back to life for a short time. Look to replace it, Rockauto has some decent prices.

On my 2000 WJ, my wiper seems to work fine about 90% of the time (at this point) but every now and then it just seems to stop right in the middle of the window. I turn it off and then on again, and it operates fine from that point. Any input???

Now that's funny! my '00 WJs rear wiper seems to have a mind of it's own. It works fine if the temperature is warm, but when it gets cold, it likes to not run or stop whenever it wants to, start again, or not start at all. With snow on it, it only runs in full mode, intermittent doesn't work, or it doesn't work at all. Sometimes I have to turn the switch on and off a couple of times to get it to run. Also, sometimes it doesn't make full sweep either. ARGH!

It's frustrating when it's snowing and I'm in heavy traffic.

Mine was also stuck, when I bought the car, when I disassembled it I had to hammer the axle out, it was so rusted. In it there are several rotating connectors that control the travel distance in both directions and the parking position. If the contact is not proper on any of them, the result can be this hectic stopping affect, you have both mentioned. I would try to disassemble and clean it and maybe ad some lubricant to the axle.

Good point! The rear hatch catches a lot of crap off the road and with a separately opening glass, there's a much greater change of getting dirt in the mechanism.

A new arm is on the way from RockAuto (wiper sitting on bottom of window because the support bracket broke off some time ago) and while I replace the arm I will clean out that mechanism and see what happens. Figures...seems to be working just fine for the last couple of days, but I don't want this to become an issue where I have to switch it on/off all the time. Thanks all!
