rear hatch latch
My 1994 GCherokee rear hatch latch is sometimes not opening the hatch.
I lubed it and looked for something obvious, but didn't see anything. I press down on the hatch thinking this might help, but it doesn't really seem to have an effect on whether or not it opens and then all of a sudden, it opens.
Ideas?

I think there is a threaded adjustment on the rod that connects the handle to the latch. Try shortening the rod a bit.

There is a threaded adjustment. Mine is as tight as it can go. I tried bending a Z in the rod to shorten it further and it doesn't fix the issue. I have swapped 2 other latch assemblies, exterior handles, and the catch near the bumper. No dice. I cut a hole in the interior panel of the hatch and just reach in and pull. Works great. But a little embarrassing
