Questions on front pump bushing for transmission
Hey all, I'm new here my name is Jeremy. I'm working on a 1996 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.0 4WD. I am in the middle of replacing the front pump bushing on the transmission. I pressed a new pump bushing in (part number 755100) and it seems to be a looser fit compared to the old bushing on the torque converter hub. I called the dealer and they said part number is 2466796 which translates over to a ATP TB9 from Rockauto since the OEM one is not available anymore. I am concerned over the O Reilly part 755100 since there is more slack also the O Reilly bushing has a silver liner inside as opposed to a bronze like the one I pressed out of the pump. Can anyone help me out with this one? I'd appreciate any advice anyone can give.

Received new bushing today, it still has about the same amount of play as the other part number. I'm going to assume this is ok and install it and get the transmission in and see what happens. Right now there appears to be around .003" of clearance between it and the torque converter hub. Which according to Sonnax website is within spec.

Old fart with a wrench
.003" is about right for a lubricated running fit for a bushing. At first, I didn't know what you were asking, but I'm assuming you're talking about the torque converter support bushing where it goes into the pump housing, correct? There should be a seal there as well. It sounds like the O'Reilly one is an aluminum composite. I like bronze.

After installing the torque converter and hearing the two clicks. The torque converter doesn't turn freely one way or the other. It will only turn a little both ways then locks. Do I have it seated too far into the transmission? Thanks for the confirmation dave1123.

Well figured out what was hanging up the converter. Apparently when I installed the front pump it didnt (slide) over the first selective snap ring on the input shaft. It pretty much destroyed it into several little pieces. Anybody know where I can get the ring? Thanks for the help!

Turns out the metal selective snap ring on the input shaft is prone to cracking into little bits. I finally found the new part. Its a nylon sealing ring. Apparently Jeep upgraded the part due to this issue. The trans is sorted out now just have to install it this weekend. Thanks for all the help!
