Default Questions bout' putting my rebuilt 46re in my 98'.

Okay, newb questions here we go. When pushing the dipstick tube into the tranny, the rubber boot on the end that goes into the pan... is that supposed to slide into the hole or is it supposed to bulge up and act as a seal? I can't for the life of me muscle it in. Second question: about how many quarts of atf+4 will it require? The torque converter is new and empty and the lines are stock, with stock oil cooler and stock pan. Thank for bearing with me.

IF the seal boot is like a GM boot, it needs to go into the trans first. Then lubricate the dipstick tube with petroleum jelly and it should slip right in. On GM transmissions, the hole is bored into the case and not chamfered, (sharp edges). The dipstick tube is crimped on the end to make it easy to insert.

Again, with GM trannys, the torque converter holds about 5 qts and the pan 4 qts. I used to put 6 in the trans, start it up, wait a minute, shut it off and add 2 more. Warm it up and check the level, topping it off as needed.

With a Jeep, remember to do this in neutral because the pump doesn't run in Park. The torque converter won't fill unless the pump is running. That's why you have to check the fluid level in neutral. The converter isn't pressurized in Park.
