Default QuadraDrive or QuadraTracII?

I'm new to the Grand Cherokees and am wanting to purchase one under $10k but don't know which of the drivelines I should be favoring. I'll be using this rig as a daily driver to commute approx. 20 hiway miles to work but want it to have the ability to be a rugged off road adventurer so I want it to have excellent traction but pull some good MPG.

Is the Quadra Drive better than the Quadra Trac II?

Give me you input!

If it was me, I'd look for one with the SelecTrac and avoid the others. The SelecTrac is standard on the 4.0 liter equipped GCs and very easy to find.
For me it's a better off road transfer case and allows you to go into 2WD for daily commuting.

The only Grand Cherokee Limited models I'm finding have V8s with Quadradrive or Quadratrac.

The v8's all come with Quadradrive/quadratrac. The selectrac or commandtrac is found behind 4.0's and among 4 wheelers are the prefered t'case. As far as good gas mileage I would lean towards the 4.0 with a 242(selectrac). This gives you 2wd with the ability to go to 4wd fulltime when the weather is bad or 4wd part time or 4wd low when the going gets tough offroad. It is always possible to get a v8 and swap the quadratrac/quadradrive with a 242 t'case. Between the quadradrive and the quadratrac I couldn't tell you which is better. I sure Nick can tell you.

Thanks for the reply drakan.
After some further research I made a purchase Christmas Eve.
Picked up a 04 Grand with the 4 liter Selectrac and really like it!
Can't wait for a chance to give the 4x4 a good test now.

Ya I think the 04 then the 93 in that order is best.
hmmm wow I got lucky as I have both.

I think you will like your GC, if you get in the snow they just drive like normal, Then you have lots of time to watch for the other guys.
