for the past few weeks I have been noticing that I have a popping sound that seems to come from the front passenger side of the jeep while turning left over 15mph turning the steering wheel more than 90 degrees to the left.
I checked all the usual suspects. I lifted up the front end of the jeep and I tried to move the track bar connections and inner and outer tie rod ends. I tried to move them anyway I can using traction gloves. I seen NO movement what-so-ever anywhere.
I also checked the wheel bearings and ball joints by trying to check for play in the tires. No play there either.
The last thing I checked where the U-joints, they both were solid and I didn't see any red-dust indicating rust falling out of the joints.
The sway bar links also were in good shape too. I am stumped on this one as to what could be wrong.
But I do have an issue that MAY be related to making this happen. As I drive down a straight road, I need to hold the steering wheel at a constant 12 degrees to the left to make the jeep drive straight. I plan on getting an alignment done within a week. But could this cause my popping issue by making my tires "over turn" to the left? This is the only thing I can think of.
Thanks-

I have u-joint axles....not a CV joint
Also, I listened to the sound more closely, and it's more like a D-D-D-D-D sound than a popping one-

I have a 2001 Grand Cherokee and a couple weeks ago I had the D-D-D-D-D-D sound while turning in both directions but I live In Wisconsin and theentire underside of the Jeep was iced up since it warmed up a bit and I got slush all over the under side then it froze again. Once it warmed up enough to melt off the D-D-D-D-D sound went away........ but now in the last week I get a pop sound from the driver's front every time I turn a decent left.... Also while driving straight on a road and a left curve comes up, the steering wheel slips maybe a 1/4" of play as I start turning left?????? I'm totally confused too??? Any ideas as to what I have going on guys? It might be the same issue.
