A little more information would be helpful, BUT I'm going to assume you're talking about the valve cover on the 4.0 straight 6, correct?
They are crankcase vents. The front one goes into the air intake ducting after the filter and lets in fresh air. The rear one has the crankcase vent valve or PCV in it that meters crankcase vapors into the intake manifold to be burned.
