pinion seal replacement, repalce yoke to?
I was gona replace my rear seal, do i need to replace the yoke to since it has some small marks on it?
The new seal looks like this http://www.quadratec.com/products/52420_19.htm but the old one is different, it has a lip that prevent it from going to far into the axle, the new one dont have that, should i buy a better one? The new seal dont seems to be in exact same place on the yoke, so maybe that prevent leak thru the small marks?
What is best seal i can buy? it looks like timken or skf maybe is a different type of seal?

Old fart with a wrench
Those marks are wear grooves from the seal. This is usually caused by dirt or mud getting into the seal area and acting like an abrasive. If you don't replace the yoke, the new seal won't last long.
Make absolutely sure you properly retorque the pinion nut so you don't overload the bearings. This is CRITICAL for the life of the axle.

The new seal looks different and has a much smaller contact surface and it looks like the contact with the yoke is outside the wear grooves. But i have also ordered a SKF seal since the new i got looks cheap. I have a mark on the nut, pinion and yoke so i would get them back to same place. I didnt manage to find a torque wrench that could measure the low torque to turn the pinion so i would replace it to the same mark. But if someone has a better way please tell :-)
One other question, if i should replace the axle seal and bearings, what tools do i use on the litle screw/bolt on the carrier to get the pin out so i could remove C-clips. It looks like torx?
