pinion bearings
I replaced noise pinion bearings and torque to 220 lbs. The bearing preload is 30 foot inch. I still have the noise when I accelerate, but no noise when coasting. Did I over torque or not tight enough?.
Thanks.
Thanks.

When my rear axle pinion bearings were bad they had to replace the ring and pinion gears too, as well as the wheel bearings. I've got the D44A though.
I did change the diff and axle bearings too. Change seals. Could I crush the sleeve with 150 lbs torque wrench and 2 feet pipe on it?.
I did the some on front and work fine, but I had to take to shop to tight the nut. What it is worry me is that I have all ready 30 inch pound preload.
I am going to take the brakes off and measure again. The value for new bearings are 15 - 35 inch pound, but I think that that value applay when there is no diff assembly, just the pinion shaft in tube. Some mechanics have even wheel on and set the preload correct. This is where I get lost. I do not know the correct value with diff assembly. The nut is tight, no "play" on yoke, but I still have "winning" in rear bearing.
