Default oil pressure gauge always reads maxed out..

my 00 cherokee sport 4.0 oilpressure gauge always reads maxed out; even when engine isnt running and ignition is clicked on...this sounds like a bad oil pressure switch, correct?? anything else it could be??

Your right. But make sure it is a mecanical switch. If it isn't. There will be a rely or a fuse burned out.

I have seen canadian switchs do that, yes, I said canadian switches. Had to put one in at work in a pinch cause it was spitting oil, would read max all the time.

Mine does it too. Its because mine has the sensor for the cluster that uses an idiot light so when it tells you that ismts low like if it were to turn the low oil light on it will make the gauge go to zero. Hope that makes sense.
