No reverse questions
I bought a 95 GC with an I-6 and auto trans, 4x4. The trans is bad. So I removed it and bought a 99 trans with 90k miles. It came out of a wrecked GC so I figured I would give it a shot. I used a brand new torque converter. I filled the converter with 2 qts of fluid before I installed it. I did a search and it said 10 qts of fluid for an over haul. So I put 9.5 qts in and ran it to up to temp to check the fluid. It is a little high.
The trans is strong in forward gears. In fact it had no trouble with a power brake burn out. That was just to see how the trans was going to act. It was fine.
When I put it in reverse it jumps into gear. With a little throttle absolutely nothing. Could the fluid being a little high cause this issue? I had to take the trans case and adapter off the old trans and apply to the 99 trans. There is a shift rod in there. Is it possible it didn't seat right. If so what is the right way?
I have spent 10 hours working on this thing by myself curbside with 1 standard floor jack and hand tools. I really hope I don't have to remove this thing again.
PLEASE HELP!!!!
Also I used the +4 transmission fluid I was told I needed from the parts store guy. It is a full synthetic. Could this be an issue with my no reverse problem?

when my '00 gc stopped reversing i just changed the trans. i think i remember the mechanic saying the transmission ran gears forward but had bands for reverse and thats what goes. he also said thats how all these trans' break. u just lose reverse. i didn't want to (or pay for) a rebuild. hope this helps!
