Hello i am new to this site. I just bought a 1995 Grand Cherokee Limited a month ago and loving it!!! It has 240k miles on it and everything works including the heated mirrors. It starts right up in -30 weather here in ND and i just put 700 miles on it on a trip. I am having 2 problems with it right now. One when i first got it, the jeep had no power. I found out the cat was clogged up, once i took off the cat, it had more power, but is still lacking power up top. The other problem is i am hearing a loud whining noise in first gear, at low speeds. Is it the tranny or the rear end?
Your info will be greatly helpful. Thanks!!!!

Welcome aboard. Fill out your signature line and let us know a little about your Jeep, engine, trans, t-case etc...
1st concern with power, I would start by checking or replacing the air and fuel filters, the air filter is self explanitory, the fuel filter is in front of the fuel tank, above and behind the rear axle on the drivers side. Next look at the spark plugs, wires, cap and rotor. There is a good chance all of these things need some attention, but if something looks new or newer you might try something else first.
2nd concern with the noise in first, it is an automatic right? It would be hard to imagine that an auto will only make noise in 1st, and not 2nd or Rev. These gears are all reduction therefore most of the time the noise would be with them too. Most noises in the axle usually can start at a lower speed but they dont go away and again usually get worse with higher speeds. Try to find more info on this, and also if for sure its first gear only and accel or decel etc...

It is the 5.2 v8. It makes the noise in reverse to. I am going to check the transfer case in the next couple of days. But i think it might be the tranny, since there is no noise at high speed. Thanks for your info!!!!

Thanks Bro, my brother got me into jeeps. He has a 94 jeep cherokee sport with a 3 inch lift and 31 inch tires. He has beat the crap out of it the last 3 years and it starts right up in this -30 weather. They are built very well. I am trying to get the bugs out of mine. Then future plans are to put a 3.5 lift and bigger tires.

haha NO! they are not built very well at all. honestly its how you build YOUR Jeep the way you want it that makes it built well (4.7 litre stroker motor, just sayin haha). I wish you the best of luck. and welcome to the forum. these guys know their stuff and are always happy to help
