Default New member, needs some help.

Hello folks, the vehicle in question here is actually my wifes, it was her first car and it has a lot of "personality." It's a 93 grand cherokee, it has 287,000 miles on it, it runs (most of the time) but it has a couple of issues I'm trying to fix. I'm hoping you guys can help me, bear with me as some of this stuff is pretty stupid, please don't hold it against me, I've never worked on a jeep before.

First and most importantly, the turn signals are not flashing, hazards work, but not the signals. So I have the appropriate relay to fix it (I think). I've taken a good bit of the drivers side dash apart, managing to break the control for the power mirrors in the process. For the life of me I can't find this dang fuse. Does anybody know where it is/how to get to it that doesn't involve a chainsaw???

Second, the vehicle display under the radio keeps resetting itself at random, doing the whole flashing and 12:00 thing. Any ideas where to start looking??

Third, it stinks of coolant and when the vent system is turned up it steams up the windows. it's dry inside the jeep, so I don't know what to look for.

Last (for now) jeep runs pretty well except it randomly will miss and the weird thing is when you get on the gas at first it doesn't really have a lot of power, then as it accelerates it sudenly surges like I stomped on the pedal. no error codes ar anything like that, so any ideas??

Thanks in advance I know some of this is vague, but I'm looking more for a where to start, than a do this to fix it. It's in fairly decent shape for the mileage. it would be a lot nicer if it didn't stink of mildew and coolant and I could actually signal lane changes without getting my arm wet when it's raining. So I'm happy to be a part of the forum, and hopefully I can get this thing up and running like I know its capable of.

Welcome to the site.

#1 Turn signal issue is most likely the flasher relay, which on my 96 is located behind the passenger fuse door on the kickpanel. Turn on your flashers and feel around. Now I am not 100% about where it actually is on a 93 but check there to be sure. Worse case scenario is it's your multi-switch in the steering column.

#2 I would start with any fuse pertaining to the display itself, but may be a bad wire issue also.

#3 This is most likely your heater core has gone bad and is leaking, and may be leaking out the A/C drain instead of the floor

#4 Could be numerous things unfortunately, could be a tune up issue, but I would start with a fuel filter by the sounds of the problem. When is that last time it had the filter replaced, and or a tune up??

Cool, I havent looked on the passenger side, I 've been destroying the dash under the drivers side. I figure the display is going to be a pain and isn't that terribly important. I know the heater core was recently replaced, so I'm thinking it could be a line thats leaking. As far as tune-ups, it's hard to say when it had a "tune-up" I know the filter was replaced recently, maybe 2k miles ago. It's a strange little issue, it seems at about 10-20% throttle the car just isn't happy, then all of a sudden it comes to life. it will miss as you come off the gas at theat range, and while aplying the throttle it's like the motor is at 2/3rd's strength. It's just odd.

Thanks for the info and the welcome, I'll be checking the passenger side of the car now.

Woot!! A co-worker found the messed up relay. as he tapped on it the turn signals would go like crazy, so i'm fairly certain this is the part. the three pronged one the guy at the parts store gave me doesn't look like it will replace the 2 pronged part we tok out. Oh well, trip to the parts store. I'm one less prolem away from having this thing back up to par. I swear the body and frame are going to rust away before this tank stops running.
