Need help with shifter

Default Need help with shifter

I have a 93 V8 5.2L grand Cherokee limited automatic trans and every time I shift I have to put it in neutral basically for it to engage into reverse and then same whenever I want to shift into drive or anything is this my shifter cables? And if so how do I fix this? Please help

Im a newb on here but it sounds to me like your shift solenoids aren't fully engaging. Low Fluid perhaps , shift cable is the likely the issue though. It should have an adjustment fitting under your shifter in the trans tunnel.

It could be the cable adjustment, but I think there may have been a recall for the shifter assembly. Call the sevice department at your local Jeep dealer and give them the VIN #, they should be able to tell you if the recall has already been done on your ZJ.
