need help with my trans overdrive
I have a 1999 jeep grand Cherokee 4.0 with a trans swap from a 2004 and my trans over temp light is on and the overdrive will not come on in the jeep. Any ideas will be appreciated. When I am driving it and press on the gas the truck revs up and won't downshift into overdrive.

there is no erratic shifting. the problem is the trans overtemp light is on. this is causing my overdrive to stay off. this is happening before i even start vehicle. just comes on. i think it may be a sensor. i just dont know what sensor it could be.

Old fart with a wrench
Just an aside, Check for a plugged cooler. Burnt clutch material will plug it up.

update
i fixed the issue. the transmission was a 2004 and the truck is a 1999 the pressure governor and internal trans temp sensor was different. i had to cut the replace the plug with the one from the 1999.

Would the tv cable out of whack cause these symptoms?
the vehicle will not downshift properly.
in any gear under hard acceleration the vehicle will down shift and have no power. the tach just sets at 3000 and no increase of speed. shifts thru the gears nicely but as soon as i push it to the floor it down shifts and sets at 3000 and no increase in speed.
this seems to me like the torque converter is not locking up?
may be the tv cable like you said. I dont know jeeps that well.
