Default my head cleaning project +++

I removed the head today, hard to do? NO, its easy :-) and i have never done something like this before. The bolt nr14 was easy to remove, is a GC93 different than all the others since all says use tape to hold it up when removing the head?
Everything looks ok, i will start to clean it. But on one valve the valve seal was at the top of the valve. Is that why its smells exhaust/gas from the oil? I tok some pictures, i will take some more when its clean.
Is this a ok tools to remove the valve springs?

After i remove the valves and valve seals, is it okey to wash the head with PBblaster or other stuff? I know PB destroy the valve seals, but anything else? Its so dirty that i want to let the head stay in som engine cleaner for 2-3 days before i start to clean it. (i need to get a valve spring compressions tools first)

Make sure to keep all valves in order so they can go back in the same place they came out from...

If available, take the head to a radiator shop or some other place that can boil it out for you.

Spend the extra cash and get a machine shop to clean, magnuflux (check for cracks) and check for flatness of the head, you will never get it as clean as they can...

And yes make sure u keep all the valves and springs in order in which they came out. Also a good idea to use new head bolts when reinstalling, and make sure u use a torque wrench.

how to remove valve lifters? could i use a magnet to remove them? Some says that new lifters need new cam, but many says that its okey to use new lifters on old cam. What to lube the new lifters with, normal engine oli? Is it okey to only replace one lifter?
Some place online to order lifters and pushrod for a god price.

The head is clean :-) But i notice that back on the head on the upper/valvecover side there has been some milling, i got a new fel-pro gasket, should that be ok or should i try to apply some permatex #3 where the milling has been done? the difference isnt much, maybe 0,3mm. But why has the milling been done there?

On the piston it says 030, is that original size piston, i'm trying to see if the engine has been fixed before. It have 275000 km so it looks like it have been repaired some time ago?

That may mean the cylinder was bored 30 over sometime in the past.

Do you have a manual?
It is a good idea to lap valves to check.

Yes, i'm doing the lap valves, done with 8, 4 left. But all my exhaust valves have small brown dents where the valve seats "connect", i have cleaned them and doing the lap valves but i cant get them all gone since i then must remove a lot of the valve material. But if i fill the chamber above the valve with brake cleaner it dont leak through at once, but if i let it stay in there it leak a litle after some minute, i can see some wet spot, but its not dripping. If i then press the valve some times it seems to close better. Is that normal or should all valves seal 100%. I do get the gray circel on the seat and the valve when doing the lap valve.

did a new lap valves, then i filled the chambers with breakecleaner. I have done it on 8 so i have 4 left, but of the first 8, 7 of them didnt leak, the last one did a litle leak. I had the liquid in there for 5 min, i also turned the head so the valves pointed down, still no leak on 7 of them, thats great :-) I also did a test on my head with a glas plate to see if its warped, it was 100% okey :-) so now i will do the rest of the valves. Its fun and not hard to do, but it takes some time.
