Hey guys,

Having some unhappy noises coming from both differentials. I read posts on the subject and the recommendations were to change the fluid in both front and rear and the transfer case. I used the NV247 fluid for the transfer case (Quadratrac II) and I used Valvoline 75w140 gear lube for Limited Slip in the front and rear. Did the figure 8s as recommended, but it's still not a happy camper after about 150 miles. A tech at Valvoline said that there is 4% limited slip additive in the gear lube. What else could it be? Thoughts?

Thanks!
Lorne

I worked part-time of Valvoline for 13 years and I am not aware of any friction modifier in 75W/140 Syn. however that might be true. It's been a while. Try adding another shot and see if it helps.

From the way it looked to me, the newer bottles of Valvoline on the shelf say "For Limited Slip", the older ones don't. As it turned out, I played with it a bit and added LSD additive a little at a time until the sound just barely cleared up.. Much better now!

Thanks!

Good deal. It will probably get better as the glaze wears off the clutch plates. We did many rear diffs in my time and always added LSD additive to the ones that needed it. I last worked at VOIC in 2005. So many things have changed since then.
