Default Mirror spring broken

I have a 1997 jeep zj Laredo. The driver side mirror shakes at low speeds and especially at high speeds. After looking into the matter I found they the mirrors have springs in them so they don't get snapped off when bumped. It turns out my spring has rusted out and isn't very secure. The mirror won't fall off or anything but the shake is quite annoying especially when trying to use it. I looked online and couldn't find a spring replacement. All I could find were entire mirror replacements. Any suggestions for a fix or place I can find a spare spring.

Thanks

The mirror spring also suffered a rust failure on my ZJ, so I popped out the mirror glass and replaced the spring.

Awesome! thanks for the picture. Looks easy to follow and should a very simple fix. Do you have any places I could find a replacement spring at? So far I can only find places selling the entire mirror.

Thanks

YW

My replacement was an old generic carburetor (remember those?) spring I had on hand.

Either get something similar at an auto parts store, a hardware store or at a home improvement store.

On mine the vertical rod was also rusted out at the end. I took a rod and cut it to length as a replacement. My recollection was that being a 1/8" diameter rod.

Note it is not fun stretching the springs over the rod. It is scary removing the mirror glass from the concealed mounts.
