Default Metal to metal sound

I have a 2004 cherokee ladero. I have a metal to metal, sound in the back. Replaced the shocks, front and rear. What else does anyone think it may be?

Hi Don, Welcome to CF!

I think it could be due to too many things and that if you want answers then more details are needed.

Is it a banging or a scraping sound? Did the noise begin after the shocks were replaced?

Still if you want intelligent answers then you'll need to offer more detail. Otherwise if you only want opinions on what you're hearing then folks can tell you it's caused by anything ranging from mice with rock bands practicing inside your fenders to anti-gravity theories. Can you describe the sound and conditions when heard?

Sounds like metal to metal, a crunch. While riding over humps and dips in the road.

I think you need to let an experienced mechanic inspect for the cause of the Crunch, Captain, so you can make good, safe and cost-effective repairs. (Couldn't resist the pun.)

The lower ones are a snap to replace, but the upper one has a ball joint mounted on top of the differential and is easiest to remove the mounting bolts and 2 rubber bushing bolts and replace it in one piece.

Both my rear control arm bushings rotted their steel sleeves and it was cheaper and easier to replace the whole arms than try to just replace the bushing. rockauto.com has the lowers for $50 each, the upper for $65, and the ball mount for $25.
