Lower ball joints correct?
I recently took out lower ball joints and replace them with new and the bottom flange I pressed flush at the bottom of the arm there's a little bit sticking out the top of the arm were the snap ring goes the local shop wouldn't align my car because they say it's not correct there should not be that much sticking out but don't I have to press it to where the flange is flush on the bottom of the arm? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated I have two mechanics told me this is correct

I'd say in most, if not all cases, the ball joints flange should be pressed tight up against the metal it's being pressed into. What year Cherokee are we talking about as I know mine does not have any snap rings.

The ones I had stick out also they are a heavy duty ball joint and they do sit flush on the bottom . with all the different ball joints how does the shop know how they fit , just take it to a differant shop .

You're in the XJ (84-01 regular Cherokee) section. You should check the Grand Cherokee section of the forum. If I'm not mistaken, the suspension on the GC is independent, on the XJ it's a solid front D30 axle (similar to a Wrangler or some 90's era GCs). That ball joint is a completely different beast in an independent front suspension.
Pressed in new lower ball joints in an 07 Grand Cherokee Laredo took it to get it aligned and the ball joint is sticking up above the top of the arm my about a sixteenth of an inch but the bottom flange is flush with the arm which is way it should be when it is pressed all the way but they wouldn't align it because they said that shouldn't be sticking up that far I've had two mechanics look at it and say that's the way you got to press it all the way till it meets the flange so I was wondering if anyone out there has ever had this problem or knows anything about it any ideas will be quite helpful thank you
