Just got used jeep, pretty but WTF!!

I doubt the dealer will help. They usually touch up the "looks" of used vehicles and sell em as is. It's your duty to check and inspect everything prior to buying. I made this mistake myself and learned my lesson. My dealer told me a college chick previously owned my jeep. Normally i'd do a complete inspection of the rig when I hear something like that but all I checked was the oil. I was in a hurry. When I finally got around to inspecting it (after purchase) I realized that the tranny fluid was brown and dirty, oil was like water, t-case fluid was black and diff's were never changed. This girl never changed her fluids, even the oil! Luckily everything functions still and I've since flushed every fluid a couple times. Now everything is clean.
My advice: inspect, inspect, and inspect before you buy.

I know I was in a hurry to and they already had it heated and cranked for me to test ride down highway and
back so no way I would of opened the radiator cap, I'll call them up and see if the will
do anything. Thanks for
all the suggestion

isn't there a lemon law that protects a buyer from a dealer or seller that deals in the item sold?
here, in canada, we have an unsaid warranty for i believe up to 30 days if bought from someone who deals in said item.
for example a car from a car lot/dealer, bike from a bicycle from a bike store, but not a car from a bike store or a bicycle from a car lot.
so i think that dealer has an obligation, if it's within a timely sale.

i think you might be boned on the take back to dealer thing, if they are nice or want to keep you as a customer they would do it, but hard to tell. when i bought my xj it had waterr for coolant and the most plugged thermostat i have ever seen. some fins on the rad were broke, but i bought it anyway, cuz its a jeep!

Overheat
If your temp gauge went that high there is a good chance that you have a blown head gasket or worse. mine was over heating so I put a new radiator in. then the water pump was leaking. replaced that and then the thermostat went out. Removed that and limped home on a rough running Jeep
I took it to the shop, they pulled the head and found the head gasket was blown, there was a crack in the head across #6 valve seat. 2 cylinders were getting scraped by the piston.
Next step, get a reman engine installed for $3000.
point of this tale;
1) Do not trust your temp gauge if there is no water around the temp sender it is NOT relaible.
2) If you have water leaks ANYWHERE get it looked at and fixed ASAP!!!!!
3) If you get an overheat..do not drive it any further get it to the shop and looked at.
good news; reman engine has a 1year parts and labor and 7 year parts warranty.
Good luck

If I'm not mistaken, there is a Lemon law that protects auto buyers from this type of occurence. IIRC there is an automatic 60 or 90 day warranty - whether the seller agrees to it or not - on all used vehicles, especially dealer used cars, and you should be well within your right to return the vehicle for a full refund or have them undertake the necessary repairs / improvements to make your new vehicle roadworthy again - as long as you're within the 30/60/90 day Lemon Law time-frame. I think it varies from state to state but you should be able to look this up on line and contact consumer protection or a similar advocate. You have every right to approach the dealer and ask them to make things right. That is the best route for you to pursue immediately: give them every chance to right this wrong. If they refuse, I would contact a lawyer and tell the dealer you intend to take the matter up with a consumer protection advocate. If you spent $$ save your receipts as they may come in handy. Just my $0.02

now that i think of it the brown stuff floating around could me this stuff called "mend tite". i used it in my old work van. its used to fix coolant leaks and bad gaskets. its not the copper stuff. i think its made from ground up gasket material at least that what it looks like. they may be tryin to hide a bigger problem.
hold on to that check. wait for them to call you.

Brown stuff
Ya, there is all kinds of crap out there to hide engine problems.
I had an engine that had a leather strip under a bearing cap to keep it from making noise on a scored bearing journal..lasted long enough to get it off the lot and a month more..
