[QUOTE=ct67_72;1072633]posts like this irritate me. not the question , but the obviously uneducated answers. oh its junk, and thats all I can say because I dont know anything. God, if you dont know anything about transmissions, I dont know why you would have to put your .02$ in everywhere.
The transmissions are very stout units when properly maintained. they have a couple common problems that are easily repaired should they come up. Most people put off the repairs until the transmission really is "junk" then blame their lack of maintenance on it.
anyway, if you are having to let off the throttle for it to shift than, like stated above, you most likely have a tv adjustment issue.
Do some searching on here to find procedure. If you have any issue i will copy the FSM for you on how to adjust it. That should take care of it.
Good luck![/QUOTE

no more in general. To adress what you did say though, and dont take this as anything against you, just to dispel a common trans myth since it came up.
1. if it was shifting hard than there is no way there is lack of lube or low pressure.
2. if there is enough debris to plug a filter the trans is damaged past simple repair/maintenance.
3. even if it was clogged, it wouldnt drive, or least not for long. a plugged filter would cut off all fluid flow. so the converter would not fill, and the pump would not be able to make enough pressure to apply clutches. (pretty common on hondas, drive for 10 minutes, trans stops worling, shut off for 20 minutes and repeat, everything settles out of the filter, runs, sucks it back up until it doesnt move anymore.) It would also be making some crazy noise as the pump cavitates.
So not to offend anyone, but after running a transmission shop, and being in business for myself as a transmission builder (currently build performance chrysler trans only) it just drives me crazy at the abundance of misinformation about transmissions.
Most people dont understand automatic transmissions. and that is fine, they are very complex and there is no reason to learn about them unless you are fixing them. But throwing out wifes tales and uneducated guesses helps no one.
Again, dont anyone take it personal, but its the reality of the business.
And again, I am willing to help anyone with trans problems, or to answer any questions that come up.
Dan

Well I was speaking from experience with a clogged tranny filter in a grand cherokee. Yes it still drove but took alot of gas and didnt shift correctly. After the filter was changed it drove like its suppose too. That was on a customers car

No that was the only problem. Although it took two filters to completely flush out the crap. After the filters it was fine. There was about a 1 inch of sludge in the pan the first time around.

where do you think that "sludge" came from. "sludge" is clutch material, if there is that much it came from somewhere.
Im not trying to start an argument with you, but no transmission in the world has ever had 1" of sludge in the pan and went on to live a happy life. Im sorry but it just doesnt work that way.

lol, this is why I dont post more on forums. Some one did something once so it must me right
Being an ATSG/ATRA certified transmission rebuilder means Im "a know it all" when it comes to transmissions.
Im sorry that in my years of experience with transmissions I have learned something, and am actually knowledgeable in the matter.
Dont worry, Ill go "play my games" in my tranny shop, where we dont change filters on transmissions with obvious internal damage.
Again, to anyone who actually needs legitimate information on transmissions, especially chrysler transmissions, feel free to contact me and I will help you to the best of my ability.

Yeah, I'd be scared if there was an inch of sludge in my trans pan. last time I checked, atf doesn't break down into sludge like engine oil can. Probably lots of metal in that inch of sludge.
