Junk yard 44re tranny
So this maybe a dumb question ,but is there a way to flush a tranny before you install it? There was no sludge or metal in the pan. Fluid smelled old not burnt.

Not really, best you can do is drain all of the fluid out of the transmission and torque converter that you can. Get a drain plug kit and install it in the pan. Then do a few drain and fills after you put some miles on it. Or install it and have a shop do a flush for you. Not Jiffy Lube though.

Thats what I thought. I have heard people flushing a tranny in the vehicle. So like you said drain as much as I can. Change the filter adjust the bands and call it good.

Old fart with a wrench
Most of the fluid is in the torque convertor, so pull and drain that first.
