Default jeep won't start???

My 02 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo won't start.
The battery connections are fine and I have power (headlights, dome lights, dash lights etc.)
It won't turn over or take a jump start from another vehicle.
I tapped the starter with a hammer and checked the fuses with no results.
Please advise on possible troubleshooting or things I can try to start it.

Thanks....Stu

Try putting it in neutral and turning the key. You might be surprised

You have to load test the battery. Lights mean NOTHING. Twelve volts without a load means NOTHING. How old is the battery?

Did it start in neutral? Try wiggling the shift lever. Been there, done that. Neutral Safety Switch is what is suggested. On lower portion, passenger side of transmission. About a $250 part. Easy to repair a worn one, if you can be really careful about removing it. Read posts and give it a try.

I believe on the 02, the NSS is screwed into the trans case and looks like a temp sensor. When removed, it has a ball bearing end contact. This contact rides on the internal shift linkage. A quick check it to pull the plug and jumper the plug contacts or use a multimeter on the NSS itself. It should show continuity in park and neutral.
