Engine Performance problem
2004 Jeep Cherokee V8 All Wheel Drive Automatic 97000 miles


when i set the cruise at 55 the engine

will surge from 1600- to 2000 the speed doesnt change and it willl do it at different speeds. i was just using this as a reference.it will try and do it at idle but only once or twice then it stops. no check engine light. and sometimes if i punch it and go 80 and resume it will quit for a while/

 

We recently had a similar issue with our '04 V8 Grand (WJ). While driving on the interstate with the cruise engaged, the idle would jump about 500 RPMs but the speed didn't change. It would do this about every 20-30 seconds, but only if the cruise was engaged. We took it to the dealer because it's under the extended warranty, and they changed the fluid, filter, and re-flashed the TCM. It's doing fine now. It has 88,000+ miles since we bought it new.
