Default Jeep Cherokee 1999 hiccups

I just bought a 1999 Jeep limited with only 88000 miles- beautiful vehicle! Only difficulty is that it "hiccups" while I am driving. It is in OD - which is what I thought it should be in. There is a second gear shift that I don't even understand- For towing I presume? I am concerned about the hiccup- any ideas?

Is it a misfire?

Check for codes, even if you don't see a CEL.

What do you mean by hiccup? And are you talking about the 4 wheel drive after or the fact that 2nd gear is on the transmission shifter?

If this I your scenario, I know what it is: you will be driving fine the. It feels like while your pushing the gas it will deliver gas then not, then does , then not (that type of hiccup ) kinda like if you wee to Tap the gas then let off, tap the gas then let off, but you are really holding down the gas peddle without letting off, then it's....

your crankshaft positioning sensor.

My WJ was doing that, and naturally I thought it must e the fuel pump. Well I didn't change my fuel pump and I did my CPS and I haven't dealt with the problem anymore.

All there is to it is dropping the center crossmember, have a wired clothes hanger ready, and the socket, extensions, and ratchet of your choice. And you can do it yourself. No mechanic required.
