thanks, the only thing I'm going to add is a spring for the antenna. if I go through low branches it will rotate the ball, a spring will solve that.

Stupid question: other than a streamlined appearance, is there any advantage to a ball mount over just a plain old bracket? We just installed a CB in our '95 and put the bracket underneath the rear bumper cover. Had to cut a tiny hole in the cover for the antenna to poke thru but overall it's all still nice and flush.

I can't really say if there is an advantage in range, but I run magnet mount antenna's before and did lose one while prerunning my MJ. I guess if I wanted to actually tune it with an SWR meter, I could trim the wire to help lower the SWR. I really only use it to talk truck to truck when I'm out wheeling or if I get stuck in traffic I can see how far ahead the problem is. but range hasn't been an issue. I tested it and can go 2 miles away from my wifes XJ in the mountains, and were never that far apart on the trail.
