I think my trans is going out!
94 4.0/Auto. While driving, every once in a while, just cruising, the trans seems to slip for a second or two then all is normal. This happens at least once every trip. Pulls great from a dead stop and downshifts just fine when pushing on the accelerator.
Pulled the dipstick and the fluid was almost clearish with a little pinkish red tint. Now I know the fluid is supposed to be a nice dark red color.
I feel like a filter and fluid change is needed, however I have heard the horror stories of transmissions not pulling after a fluid change, and although this has never happened to me, I'm still a little leery about doing it and wondered what some of your opinions were on the subject...

Mine does the same thing every now and then. While cruising on the freeway the torque converter unlocks for about five seconds and the RPMs go up by 300. Then it locks again and is fine for days, weeks, or months. I serviced the transmission and clean all of the junk off the bottom of the valve body. It helped a lot, but still does it sometimes.
Busted back, That's exactly what mine does. It doesn't really bother me, just don't want to end up putting a tranny in it. Going to do a fluid and filter change anyway, clean the valve body up some, and see what happens.

Do your self a favor and get the reusable transmission pan gasket from the dealer. Well worth the 25 bucks and it won't leak.
