Default 94 ZJ multiple questions

Well I bought it... I'm just paranoid because the guy I bought it from was a little... Sketchy..

I would like to change all the lock cylinders on it, and would like tips to get that done for the best option.

I would also like to disable the alarm system because it randomly went off when I unlocked and opened the door.

Never owned a ZJ and need help! Thanks!

The lock cylinders are an easy swap, they're only held in with a clip. I'm not sure about the alarm, I don't have one.

The ignition is simple to replace, but you will need to have it coded the match the door locks. There may be a kit that has all of the cylinders coded and ready to install. I've never messed with the glovebox.

I'm tempted to just buy a full set of locks off someone...

After a little light reading ,........
1- the body control module could be going bad. Or
2 - the hatch lock mechanism is going bad which when locked is not telling the BCM to go to sleep and the bcm thinks the hatch is unlocked and open

You can give the alarm a permanent "good" signal by shorting a wire under the dash.

It should be purple with a yellow trace, although mine was pink with a yellow trace. Remove the kick panel on the drivers side, beside your left foot. Up high you will find the wire. I used a fuse on it, and a Scotch Lock to take it directly to ground.

To disable the alarm you need to ground a wire that is running throught the drviers door jam wire harness. It is a violet with a yellow tracer wire. It needs to be put to ground.

On the drivers side in the foot well area just above the hood release mechanism you should see the wire harness that is coming from the drivers door.

In that group of wires, locate the violet with a yellow tracer wire. Do not cut the wire. Instead, strip the violet/yellow plastic off to expose the bare wire.

Get a section of new, similar gauged wire (18 gauge works), and strip away the plastic on both ends to expose the wiring. Take one end of this new wire and wrap it around the exposed section of the violet/yellow wire.

Take the other end of the new wire and ground it to the body of the jeep. This will ground the system and should permanently disable the alarm system.

Same as the 4.0, use the search function and there will be a few good write ups on this subject.
