I think my Jeep hates me sometimes
i have recantley joined this fourm to see if i can find some ansewers about my baby. anyone who has a jeep knows when you turn it off and run into a store when u come back out she can be a little hot when you come back out, mine is now at the point that it over heats so badley that it dosent want to start but once i get her moving she cools off, it will not over heat while running or at idle , but i cant imagine these rough starts being good for the motor. I have read on hear that the 01 have the head that likes to crack could this be a sign of that. I have changet the thermostate, and radiator recentley, but not water pump or clutch fan, what could be causing this. Also my heat is on the fritz but just as odd, motor blowes but no heat, checked the hoses both in and out feel warm, but whats odd if it runs for a litle while ill turn heat on and it will blow hot air for about 30 secondes than stop again, could thease be related some how?, maybe water pump weak? she only has 124000 miles on her
Not sure if this is what you've got going on or not... I have an '02 GC with the 4.7. I had an issue where the fan was getting noisy, dealership wanted $1800 to replace hydraulic fan assembly (fan motor runs off power steering pump). Needless to say, I turned them down and the engine started to intermittently overheat. I then went to a buddy's mechanic who diagnosed the problem was the water pump. The impeller cracked and was spinning on the pump shaft (we figured that the blade was spinning erratically causing the intermittent overheating issue). I never got to the point where the engine wouldn't start, but tried to avoid letting it overheat. I wish you luck and hope it turns out to be minor!

Try to avoid overheating the 4.7. If you blow a head gasket or warp a head, it gets intense working with the cams and valve gear.

Sounds like maybe your heater core or its lines might be clogged.
Have you tried flushing the heater core and/or cooling system?
Could also try by-passing the heater core to see if the over heat problem goes away.
